Helderberg Junior Writing Academy’s vision is to inspire young minds, to bring back the magic to small everyday things and give young writers a voice.

You can find magic wherever you look.  Sit back and relax, all you need is a book.

About

Helderberg Junior Writing Academy is a school where students spend a year writing and illustrating a picture book / comic book.

The course is presented in both Afrikaans and English. During the course of the year students are exposed to various art media from which they can choose to illustrate their own book.

What are the benefits of creative writing?

About the instructor

Mariska grew up on a farm in Kwa Zulu Natal where she spend most of her time outside.  Her days were filled with unadulterated imaginary play and fresh air.  She has been telling, drawing or writing stories for as long as she can remember.  Her other passion is teaching and specifically working with children.   Combining her two passions of story telling and teaching is a dream come true.  Children have the ability to unleash their imaginations and tell the most fantastical stories.  She makes a point of learning from her students.

"Ceativity is experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking rules, making mistakes and having fun. - Mary Lou Cook"
